The Test Drive

If you have gone through the process of selling your car, you are probably ready to finalize the sale. You probably started out with a little “trying to sell my car” advertisement. Now you are getting phone calls from potential buyers. If you are to the point where people are coming to your house to check out the car you need to have a test drive route ready. The route should show the buyer the different terrains the car can manage on.

If it sounds like it is going to break when going over bumps, avoid areas with pot holes. If it sounds great over bumps, take the car off-roading momentarily. This also depends on the buyer. If he is trying to buy the car for highway driving, take the car for a spin on the highway. This will show him how fast you can go without feeling uncomfortable in the car. If he is a simple city driver, take the car around the town. This will show him how it works in a stop and go atmosphere.
You need to make sure the buyer has a valid driver’s license. If they plan on test driving the car with you as the passenger, they need to be a legal driver. A good idea would be to take down some of the information just in case of an emergency. If he does not have a driver’s license you can take him for a ride but you need to be the driver. If he can legally drive, all you need to do is sit back and navigate him around the town. If he knows where he is going, still tell him where to go. If the driver insists on taking the car somewhere other than the planned route, it would be smart not to let him take the car. This can be a potential scammer. They will take the car down a street only they know of and kick you out. They will then take the car and leave.
Another tip is to let them be in control of the vehicle. Let them play around the with dash board. This is a used car to you but a new car to them. They will probably look around and play with the buttons until they feel comfortable enough to take it out. Keep the test drive as short as possible. It can be a waste of time for both parties if the drive is long and boring.

The Potential Buyer

When it comes to the potential buyer there are a few things you need to keep in mind. The first thing to remember is whether or not he/she will need to finance the car through you. If the asking price is too much for someone to pay in cash, they might need to finance the car. To make the buying process easier, you should check out your local banks and credit unions. This will not only make the process easier but also quicker. You don’t have to worry about arguing with the buyer over what bank to process the loan through. You should find the bank or credit union that will charge you least amount of money to get the loan. Once you have found the perfect location you can let the buyer know and finalize the process.
When you are taking phone calls from different buyers there are certain questions that would be good to get a feel for the buyer. Some buyers can be sketchy and scammers. Some of these questions will help you figure out if they legitimately want to buy the car or are trying to scam you out of your money. You should ask them how long they have been looking for a car. If they answer is extremely short, they most likely will not be your buyer. Most people don’t buy the first car they look at. They look around for weeks or months before committing. If they seem pretty interested, you should ask where they live in relation to your house. If they live remotely close, they will be able to come by to check out the vehicle. If they don’t live close at all, he might want to take a trip or have you meet him halfway.
If you start scheduling appointments to meet the buyer so he can check out the car, make multiple appointments within a few minutes of each other. If one buyer is checking out the car and is interested, they will put down an offer if they see someone else trying to buy the car. You need to make sure the appointments are at a good time for not only them but you as well. If you are too busy when they are free, make a different time or day. Before meeting with the buyer you should try to understand how they plan on paying for the vehicle if they do buy it. This will give you a heads up whether or not you need to go to the bank or negotiate a cash buyer.

Selling Your Car through a Dealership

There are many different ways you can sell your car. The fastest way is to take it to a dealership. Some dealerships will give you a quote within a few days. Once you have gotten your quote you can decide to sell it to them or sell it privately. If you decide to get rid of your car quickly through the dealership, they probably won’t give you enough money for it. They need to make a profit off of the car too. They will probably offer a low price and turn around to sell the car for much more. One of the only plus sides to selling your car through a dealership is the possibility of getting a better deal on a newer car. They can sometimes lower the buying price of a new car if you have just sold them your used car.
Another way to sell your car through a dealership is by consignment. The way this works is by placing your car on their lot to sell it. Instead of you having to deal with different buyers, you can pay the dealership to deal with the buyers. They will promote and sell your car for usually a flat rate. All you need to do is pay the dealership that flat rate and they will try their hardest to sell your car. When I was ready to sell, I went around to different dealerships to compare the amount they were willing to give me. Selling my car through a dealership by consignment seemed to be a better route to take. I was going to make the most amount of money this way and it was still not going to take too long.
There are also some ways to sell your car at multiple dealers instead of just one. You can do this by contacting different companies who will take you to the car auctions. At these auctions, different dealers will bid on the cars that are for sale. If you want to sell your car this way, you will be able to watch the dealers bid for your car. You might be able to get a good amount of money for your car if it is in mint condition with low miles and all stock. The dealers look for great looking cars, great running cars, and long lasting cars. If your car qualifies under all of those categories the dealerships will be fighting for your car.

Selling My Car Privately

If you are trying to get the most money out of your used car, you need to sell it privately. The process you need to go through might take longer than going straight to a dealer. It will be worth the time in the end. The first thing you need to do is clean the car up. If you can make your car look practically brand new, more prospective buyers will be interested.

The first thing someone sees when they are looking for a car is the appearance. They are not worried about anything else right away. If they are drawn to a clean car, they will inquire about the rest of the car. The next thing you need to do is put an ad on your car saying “trying to sell my car”. This will let buyers know you are willing to negotiate the price to get rid of the car. You can sell your car to buy a new one or just to have the extra money around.
Another thing you need to keep in mind when selling directly to a buyer is scamming. There are many people out there who will make your car look like a piece of garbage to get the lowest price possible out of you. If you believe everything they say, they will end up talking the price below your limit. You need to take your car to the mechanic and receive a report. This will let the buyers know everything that works well on the car and everything that doesn’t work well. If there are certain parts that need to be replaced, the buyer will most likely try to talk down the price. If the car is in prime condition, he will have no reason to talk the price down.
Once you have started advertising that your car is for sale, you will have to wait for the buyers to contact you. This can be the longest and hardest part of the process. One thing to remember is to keep your guard up. Don’t let the buyers talk your price down for irrelevant reasons. If you need to make certain amount money from your sale, make sure you find a buyer who is willing to pay that amount. There will be someone who is willing to pay top dollar for the car you are trying to sell. The money can definitely be worth the wait.

Decisions Before I Sell My Car

If you are driving around in your car and realize you are ready for a new one, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before you decide to put your car on the market. The first thing you need to think about is where you plan on selling your car.

Would you rather sell your car online, at a car auction, through the newspaper or through a dealership? Once you have made a decision based on those factors, you will be able to start the process of selling your car.

Selling My Car Online

If you want to post an ad saying “trying to sell my car” on the internet, you need to do research first. You want to find the right website that will make sure you car is sold in a timely manner. You also need to find a website that won’t bring scammers to your ad.

There are many websites out there that are all about scamming. They will take down your personal information and sell it to other websites. But if you find a good website to post your ad on, you will find a buyer in no time. Use Sell The Car USA if you want to sell your car online - they are great and operate all over the United States. And usually pay more than the below

Selling My Car at an Auction

If you decide to sell your car at a car auction you should be prepared not to get too much money out of it. An auction is meant for cars that need to be sold quickly. The buyers will bid on the cars and the highest price will win. The highest price at an auction might be lower than your original asking price. If you need to get rid of the car and aren’t too worried about making a profit, an auction would be perfect for you.

Selling My Car to a Dealership

A bad idea would be to sell your car to a dealership. When you take your used car to a dealership and tell them to “sell my car” they will not give you enough money. They will instead talk down the price because they need to make a profit.

If they don’t see the car selling for too much on their lot, they will not offer you a lot of money. If you are interested in trading in your old vehicle for a newer model, you can take it to a dealership and try to get a good deal. Most dealerships will give you the least amount of money out of any methods to sell your car.
