If you have gone through the process of selling your car, you are probably ready to finalize the sale. You probably started out with a little “trying to sell my car” advertisement. Now you are getting phone calls from potential buyers. If you are to the point where people are coming to your house to check out the car you need to have a test drive route ready. The route should show the buyer the different terrains the car can manage on.
If it sounds like it is going to break when going over bumps, avoid areas with pot holes. If it sounds great over bumps, take the car off-roading momentarily. This also depends on the buyer. If he is trying to buy the car for highway driving, take the car for a spin on the highway. This will show him how fast you can go without feeling uncomfortable in the car. If he is a simple city driver, take the car around the town. This will show him how it works in a stop and go atmosphere.
You need to make sure the buyer has a valid driver’s license. If they plan on test driving the car with you as the passenger, they need to be a legal driver. A good idea would be to take down some of the information just in case of an emergency. If he does not have a driver’s license you can take him for a ride but you need to be the driver. If he can legally drive, all you need to do is sit back and navigate him around the town. If he knows where he is going, still tell him where to go. If the driver insists on taking the car somewhere other than the planned route, it would be smart not to let him take the car. This can be a potential scammer. They will take the car down a street only they know of and kick you out. They will then take the car and leave.
Another tip is to let them be in control of the vehicle. Let them play around the with dash board. This is a used car to you but a new car to them. They will probably look around and play with the buttons until they feel comfortable enough to take it out. Keep the test drive as short as possible. It can be a waste of time for both parties if the drive is long and boring.
